What is Containers

Containers consist of a logical packaging mechanism. It allows container-based applications to be deployed easily and consistently, no matter of whether the environment is a private data center or a public cloud. A separation of concerns can be created, which allows developers to focus on their application logic and dependencies, on the other side, IT operations teams to focus on deployment and management. There will be no more concern on application details such as specific software versions and configurations specific to app.

Why Containers?

Instead of virtualizing hardware stack using approach from virtual machines, containers virtualize at the operating system (OS) level, with multiple containers running atop the OS kernel directly. Therefore, containers are more lightweight: they share the OS kernel, start much faster, and use less memory.
